(1992) in Surveying Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece; an M.Sc.E. degree (1994) in Geodesy and Geomatics Engineering from the University of New Brunswick, Canada; and a Ph.D. degree (1997) in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece (Knowledge and Database Systems Lab).

Since 1992, he has been involved in several research projects funded mostly by the E.U. (under IST, Telematics, Environment, TMR, ESPRIT, etc.). He has worked as an adviser or researcher in the Hellenic Cadastre S.A., Intracom S.A., Hellenic Documentation Center, and Fraunhofer Gessellschaft - AIS Institute (Germany).

He has taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Geoinformatics at the National Technical University of Athens, Technical University of Crete, University of Piraeus, Athens University of Economics, University of Aegean, Hellenic Open University, Universitat Muenster (Germany), and University of New Brunswick (Canada). In 2000, he joined the Department of Geography at Harokopio University of Athens. Currently he is an Associate Professor.

He has reviewed many articles for scientific journals and conferences, while he served as a member of the Organizing, Program and Scientific committees in international conferences related to Geoinformatics. His research interests include the following topics: Web Mapping and Web Mapping Services, Spatial Data Infrastructures, Geovisualization and Cartography, Interoperability of Geographic Data, Systems and Services, Spatial Analysis Methods and Algorithms, Spatio-temporal Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining, Spatio-temporal Indexing and Optimization Issues, Education in Geomatics and Geomatics-Assisted Education. He has over 40 articles in international journals (e.g., IJ of GI Science, IEEE TKDE, Cartography and GIS Journal, etc.) and conferences (IEEE KDE, COSIT, SDH, AGILE, etc.) in the above areas.
